STORY

"Congratulations, hon", Ashley Embark pulled her head jumping trainer into a warm embrace, "I know you've worked hard for this."

"Thank you", Jamie beamed, still grasping her Rolex acceptance letter as if it were her ticket to a better life.

"Now don't get me wrong, I couldn't be prouder that you and Express are competing at the international level, but I still have a long list of clients lined up for someone with that kind of experience when you get back!"

"This week is going to fly by, don't worry for a second!!"

Kavan knocked on the office door, and pushed his head in through the gap, "Your partner in crime is waiting in the truck. She says to, and I quote, 'hurry your ass up or she will pawn Expression for a new County saddle.'"

"Tell her that if Express isn't there when I come out, I'm taking over the dressage training on that new Hano colt. She doesn't want to see his tempi changes after a jumping instructor is done with him."

Kavan smiled, "You got it."

"See you in a week", Jamie turned back to her boss. Ashley was at the back wall looking up at the trophies and memories that came along with them. She took one of the frames from the shelf and popped off a gold pendant in the shape of an eventing horse. She handed it to the young rider. Rolex 1988 was scrawled at the bottom.

"This is from the year I won the Kentucky Rolex. Wear it for good luck, won't you?" Ashley paused and pulled Jamie in for an even tighter hug, "I can't believe my niece is on her way to her first international show. Your mom would be so proud."

"Thank you", Jamie felt her eyes get cold from tears, but she swallowed and pulled away, "I'll be back soon."

She took the letter and pinned the horse to the inside of her jacket as she left the barn. Some of the teens getting back from a hack out on the trails called out good luck to her before turning back to their conversations. She spotted the truck and trailer in the parking lot, Ariel pacing alongside. This week may fly by, but it wouldn't be easy. It was off to Kentucky.

                                                                                                               

THAT'S RIGHT! Jamie is Ashley Embark's niece!! You guys had noooo clue. Story about what happened to Jamie's mom should be coming within the next few months.
